"A" Roll Standard Tempo
By Steve Walker

I was bench testing a modified Coinola roll frame I built for my
calliope, changing the gearing to slow the rewind. I don't see the
need to rewind at light speed for my application.

Anyway, in testing the speed I adjusted the play tempo to about 65 to
get an idea of the actual speed at rewind. My question is: was there
a standard tempo used to produce "A" rolls?

I thought it was 65 but I am not sure. I know that the actual tempo
used to play the rolls is dependent on different factors (recut,
personal taste, etc., etc.) Just wondering if there was an industry
standard.
