Mechanical Music at Schott Web Site
By Wybe van der Wal

Philippe Rouille wrote in MMD 990519 about a new CD-ROM, "Encyclopedia
of Mechanical Music Instruments", published by Schott Muzik.

Robbie commented:

>[ I found Schott Musik International at http://www.schott-music.com/
>[ and then Netscape crashed ! I hate gaudy web sites like this: all
>[ glitz and little substance. Anyhow, I found no mention of this
>[ product at the Schott web site. Maybe soon...

On the URL that Robbie indicated I found in the Internet-Shop the next
information:

MUSICA MECHANICA: Die Welt der mechanischen Musikinstrumente

Orchestrion Maesto: Toy Drum Major / Donna Clara /
Orchestrion Styria: Die Maenner sind alle Verbrecher /
 [snip - more song titles]
    Product Number: SM 1201-50
    Price per piece: 31.90 DM

[ This is Wergo SM 1201-2, of the Jan Brauers collection at
 [ Schloss Bruchsal, recorded 1987. It's a great CD ! -- Robbie

On another page is written:

The "encyclopedia of mechanical musical instruments":
Discover the fascinating world of mechanical music from the
days of Archimedes until today. Featuring extensive background
and commentary information, pictures, films and lots of audio.

Like Robbie, I hate those WWW-pages that jump, twinkle, flash, etc.
Even more if there is no real information.

The pages of Schott Muzik, on the contrary, are full of information
and they are well constructed. Okay, there are nice (informative)
pictures, graphics, etc., but the text comes up rapidly (while the
graphics take some time), and there is a lot to read !

Was your Apple-machine still twinkling and rumbling this morning ?
Were you a bit upset by seeing a bottle-bottom ? Did you need to
visit a GP ? ;-D Hope things are better today !!

[ It was Netscape 4.5 under Win95 which crashed, and _I'm_ still
 [ rumbling over it! ;) -- Robbie

Looking forward to my trip to the Cajun & Mississippi lands in July.
(It seems to be hot there !) Our thanks goes to the MMD members who
provided us with information and addresses on my request here (MMD
1999.04.15).

Best greetings from the Netherlands, where the weather is a bit
cloudy and cold today.
