Seek Kimball Model 'F' Service Manual
By John A. Tuttle
Hello again, Sometimes I believe the Man upstairs sends me the
oddest jobs in the Universe. Maybe it's because I'm very tenacious.
Anyhow, I am in need of a Service Manual for a Kimball Model 'F'
player piano. It's the one with the 9-volt drive motor.
If anyone has any experience with this particular model, the one I'm
hoping to fix will not roll forward. It rewinds just fine, so I know
the motor itself is good. All the 'external' relays are working
correctly, so I'm inclined to think that the problem is either in the
internal relays (in the power supply) or in the motor speed control
circuit.
I've called Paul Keogler (in Pennsylvania) for a copy of the manual
(if he has one) since he is the person Kimball says bought out all
that they had left when they stopped making the Kimball player in 1975.
It's interesting to note that the customer (an elderly woman) swears
the unit was made in 1983 (the year she purchased it). So how do I
break the news to her that the unit must have been on the showroom
floor for nearly eight years. And how does one determine how much use
it got during it's stay at the music store?
Musically,
John A. Tuttle
