Book "Amateur Work, Illustrated"
By Julian Dyer
All books or magazines published in the UK must be sent (by law) to
the British Library. It's the first place to look. The library of
the Victoria & Albert Museum specialises in Arts, so it seems less
likely to have an amateur handiwork magazine in stock.
Looking in the British Library catalogue at http://www.bl.uk/ I see
there is a holding of bound copies of this magazine (1881-88) in the
main library in London and also in the periodicals collection, which
is at Boston Spa in Yorkshire. Boston Spa's document supply service
offers a photocopy service, but I'm sure it would be pricey! (You have
to search each catalogue separately at the moment, so there may be
other entries for this magazine elsewhere which I've not encountered.)
It's nice to see that the Player Piano Group's recent Reginald Reynolds
book has made it to the on-line catalogue!
