Soon I'll be adding a sustain pneumatic to my Hardman Duo console
player, and I'm toying with the idea of connecting it to my otherwise
unused suction box, set as low as possible to actuate the pneumatic.
My reasons for this are twofold: First, this would eliminate the
problem of weak sustain on soft pedaling by supplying a constant level
of vacuum to the sustain pneumatic. Second, it would allow me to turn
on and off the automatic sustain feature from the spoolbox by using the
existing on-off switch for the suction box.
The only problem I see is that, if I shut off the suction box in
the middle of a roll (or start it), there would be a certain amount
of lag time. Is this another of my hare-brained schemes, or is this
a workable idea? I'd appreciate your feedback on my idea.
