Transferring 78s to CDs
By Deane Wiley

I appreciate Jim Canavan's comments. There are certainly a large
selection of 78's music on CD's. The initial problem, however,
still remains: how to put one's own particular 78's on a CD for
private consumption.

The problem with the generic CD of 78's kind of music is that you
might get three tracks out of 15 or 20 that you really want to hear
and are particular to your own tastes and memories. Making one's own
CD is, I suggest, far more preferable, and cheaper in the long run.

I buy audio writeable CD's in bulk at approximately $3.40 per CD --
a far cry from the 14 to 18 dollars per commercially recorded CD found
in the general market.

It was recently suggested that tape is cheaper and sounds about as
good. Without arguing the merits of this, I have yet to see or hear
about a tape collection that offers the cataloging and access ease of
a CD or a group of CD's properly archived and labeled.
