Chein Toy Church Organ
By Jim Canavan

John: Your organ sounds like a similar one made by Chein, that dates
from the 1930s-40s, I believe. It's in shape of a gothic arch, with a
colorful church scene lithographed on it, and a cut-out "rose window"
through which the sound comes. The crank comes out the side. I
believe the mechanism works the same as your unit.

They are quite common in flea markets, and range from $30/40 up into
the $100s, depending on condition and if it has original box. A few
years ago, I found one in good shape in a box of junk for $30. It's a
fun little addition to a mechanical music collection.
