Just a little light spot more about old LP and 78 RPM records.
Consulting my book (whose real name is "Audio Amplifier Systems",
from Philips, Netherlands) there are a total of seven different kinds
of equalization curves adopted since the beginning of record industry.
Mainly there are two different curves for 78 RPM records, one for
pre-microgroove technology and other post microgroove technology.
Then there are four more kinds between the 78 RPM records and the
first vinyl discs, and of course the seventh one is the current RIAA
equalization curve.
A last thing to keep in mind is that if you increase the angular
velocity of the records it results in a proportional increase in a
cartridge voltage output. You should be sure that your phono front
end could manage it without clipping, considering of course this
voltage increase. All the last turntables and cartridges are ready
to handle 33 1/3 and 45 RPM grooves, you should be sure that you are
reproducing records into the cartridge dynamic range.
