Only recently has Sony made turntables to play phono records, and they
seem to be the only manufacturer. There is no need for 78 RPM on these
machines. Turntables have been "phased out" for over 10-15 years.
To my knowledge, no one has made a modification to make these
turntables play 78 RPM, likewise if they did, how big a seller would
this be? (And probably would give the impression of low quality)
Finding an old, higher quality record player IS the only answer. If
you're lucky, you might find an old Grado or an RCA studio turntable
which would do just fine. Broadcasting suppliers are beginning to sell
used equipment and would be a good source for this item.
