Seek Turntable for 78 RPM Records
By Joyce Brite

The following question is slightly off the subject of mechanical music,
but still within the realm of old music machines.

I own several 78 RPM records but no means of playing them. The problem
came to light this Easter weekend when I wanted to play my 78 of Gene
Autry singing "Peter Cottontail." My Technics turntable has only
33-1/3 and 45 RPM settings.

One can occasionally find old record players with 78 RPM at garage
sales and second-hand stores. But, I don't want to buy an old record
player. What I'm looking for is just the turntable component with a
78 setting that I can switch with my Technics turntable when necessary.
This will enable me to use my better quality speakers rather than the
dinky little speakers that usually come with a record player.

Does anyone manufacture just the turntable component with a 78 RPM
setting?

[ I recall reading about a motor modification kit which alters the
[ "45" setting to turn the platter at 78 RPM. Was this kit possibly
[ for the Technics turntable? -- Robbie
