Hello all -
Regarding pin end spools, we're in the process of making up new pin end
spools for the Wurlitzer Monster organ in Burlington, Colorado.
The pins are made of 3/16" diameter steel rod. The drive pin has "ears"
crimped on the sides near the end, and the pin for the other end is
rounded on the end. Both pins must be knurled for a snug fit in the
plastic flanges.
For commercial use, we need flanges with steel pins, not molded plastic
pin ends. We have a source for the flanges, but the pins are more of a
problem. For a few dozen pins, we can hand-press the drive ears and
figure out some way to do the knurling. For 100 or so pins, it's too much
work to do by hand, but it's not economical to set up automatic equipment
either.
I've heard that Aeolian Grand rolls also use 3/16" diameter pins. Do the
smaller Aeolian reed organ rolls, or any other types of rolls use this
diameter?
If you are interested in having some pins made, please contact me
immediately! Let me know how many sets of pins & flanges you might ever
want, so I can discuss quantity prices with the supplier. If we need
enough pins, it might be worthwhile to set up automatic equipment to get
the price down, and we can all benefit.
