Don, you may want to first consider purchasing a better-quality,
battery-powered condenser microphone. Semi-pro condenser mics
typically have a higher output level as well as improved frequency

There should be *no* distortion with a preamp, because the line-level
input on the sound card may be used. There are a huge number of rela-
tively inexpensive mic preamps available; any of the larger musical
instrument stores should carry them. Also check with pro sound
equipment rental companies or buy 'em on-line. For example, I see
you can purchase a Rolls #MP13 mic preamp for about $70.
