When it comes to video recordings, such as Andy Taylor's piano
recording, I do have some background in recording weddings and concerts
and other audio related things. May I suggest that you use a good hi
fi video recorder and use the camcorder as a camera only, connected
into the video input of the Video recorder. [The sound is recorded
on the VCR and not at the camcorder. -- Robbie]
I usually use an audio mixer so that I can listen to the audio and
adjust as necessary using a headset and watching the VU meters on the
mixer. I would suggest at least one microphone of the $100.00 or so
range. There are several dynamic and electret mics in this price range
which are not half bad. I have yet to see a built-in microphone in a
consumer video recorder which is worth throwing at a dog! They are,
without exception, very bad.
I hope this helps. You will have to play with mic placement to get
the best sound. Pianos are not the easiest to record successfully!
Best to all of you.
