Pipe Organ Web Sites

Organ Pipes as Bird Feeders
Hi All, Last week I was in contact with Dan Caulfield, a MMD member.
Dan bought a copy of my book "Building a Barrel Organ" to complete his
collection of build-it-yourself mechanical organ plans. I wrote Dan
asking him if he would do a review of the different sets of plans that
he owned. In one of the letters he mentioned buying a wooden organ
pipe on eBay so he could see how the pipes were made.
I went to eBay and did a search for "Organ Pipes" and there they were!
It killed me to see these pieces of art being sold to be used as a
shelf for knick-knacks or the worst of all a bird feeder! This reminds
me of the Carousel Horse fiasco a few years ago. Instead of selling a
Carousel to someone in one piece you sell off the horses separately to
make more money.
In order to fight this bad karma I went looking for some new web sites
on pipe organs. I hope to someday build an organ that uses pipes
instead of reeds. Here are some very interesting sites:
Site Number one: 4th Floor "The Pipe Organ Exposed" part of the Pipe
Education Project. This site shows how different types of pipes work
using animations. The URL below brings you in on the 4th floor. Ride
the elevator on the bottom of the page for other surprises at:

Site Number Two: A closer look at the pipes. This site shows Pitch,
Rank and other types of info on organ pipes.

Site Number Three: Waves & Resonance at:

If you like these sites or find something interesting please post
it here!
