Euclid Beach Park in Cleveland, Ohio
By Mark Kinsler
Just a quick appreciation to Tim Trager who rescued Euclid Beach's old
skating rink organ. Euclid Beach was still going pretty strong in the
1950's and early '60's. It was built by the Humphrey family to serve
(like many of the old US amusement parks) as a destination for the
streetcar system on weekends and holidays. A good deal of the con-
struction work was done my mother's family, the Goldmans. The Humphrey
family owned a farm nearby to grow the tons of popcorn which were
consumed at their park.
There were, as I recall, at least two carousels with player organs at
the park. One was a big, fast job whose horses have probably galloped
their way into every yuppie game room in the Western Hemisphere. There
was also a much smaller carousel that lived with the other rides for
small children inside a huge gazebo.
I hope that these other instruments have found homes.
