The March 15 Fortune Magazine features a short article written by Ed
Brown titled "Extreme Shopping: Sing Me a Song Mr. Piano Man... Excuse
Me, Orchestra." Besides the text, pictured is a new QRS orchestrion
(looking a little like a Seeburg G) with an interior picture as well.
Besides describing the pictured orchestrion as an $18,000 self-playing
band, the complimentary article paints QRS music as an upscale builder
of music machines for the person who has everything. Mentioned as
clients are Joe Montana, Frank Gifford, Charles Osgood, and a few
corporate CEO's. Curiously, neither QRS' heritage nor that of the
music machines is mentioned!
Besides the orchestrion, the article mentions QRS just introduced
its $10,000 "Virtuoso Violin, the world's first self-playing fiddle."
(Oh really, wonder where the fact checkers were). The strings are
played by a carefully concealed roller mechanism.
