For Sale: Rare Dimier, Key wound Pianoforte Music Box. c.1840
"DIMIER & Ce. GENEVE 2990" is stamped on top of the governor.
Here is some further information:-
The tune sheet is a replacement, but over the years I with the help of
friends have been able to identify the tunes. They are
1. Coronation March 'Le Prophete' - Meyerbeer
2. Serenade - Donizetti
3. L'elisir D'amour - Donizetti
4. Rule Britannia - Arne
5. Queen's fan Polka
6. Canon - Thomas Tallis
Tune sheet pins and positions are original 124 mm by 70 mm.
Cylinder 331 mm (13 inches). Left comb 217 mm 85 teeth (tip off the
third from end treble tooth). Right comb 113 mm 44 teeth. The cylinder
appears in fine original condition, while the comb has a little
staining suggesting light rust at some time. Iron bed plate. Tops
of control levers brass.
The box is 520 mm long, the lid has 4 stringings from edge 8 mm apart
with centre inlay of scrolls and shapes. A rare survivor is the
original box key attached by ring to the winding key and an ivory tab
with 'music box' written on it. Missing is the end flap (modified
exposed leaver) and the glass lid.
$5,000 US or best offer considered by 15th March.
