Hello, I have a 1922 Chickering, 6'4" grand with it's original Ampico
A system. I am in the process of restoring the instrument and will then
follow with the restoration of the Ampico system. It has a beautiful
mahogany cabinet, professionally refinished with a warm lacquer finish,
hand buffed and polished. The soundboard also has a new finish, and
the plate is re-gilded, with clear coats of gloss, decals all new,
of course.
I've enjoyed working on this instrument and can't wait to have it going
again. The action will have new hammers (Abel), new dampers..
regulated etc.. Ivory keys.. ebony blacks. Completely re strung, I
think that this Chickering at 6' 4" will be a lot of fun. We have
about 400 of the older rolls that came with the instrument. I think
that most of these are Ampico, probably about 150 are not Ampico rolls.
I would appreciate some input regarding the value of such an
instrument. I hope to have the restoration complete before selling,
but if someone would like to purchase it after the piano restoration is
done and finish the Ampico themselves that would be fine. Any
suggestions would be much appreciated. (Also, I would be happy to
E-mail pictures of it.) I feel that the piano, without the Ampico,
will have a value of around $19,000? The Ampico adds? Any
suggestions?
Thanks.
