Many thanks to you, Bruce, and a number of others who lent a helping
hand in my understanding of this "feature" of the Ampico A tempo
governor. Once again, the Internet at its finest.
What we actually have in this unit as found is a thick leather valve
bolted to the leaf spring, with no evidence at all of a pouch ever
being there. It had the appearance of admitting atmospheric pressure
to the treble end of the stack when the movable board on the tempo
regulator collapses against leaf spring tension. This did not seem
to make any sense, which provoked my inquiry on MMD.
I gather then that this pouch, unlike elsewhere in the instrument,
is fully exposed to view. And if working against the leaf spring,
should this pouch be made of a thicker, more robust leather? And
how is the pouch attached to the leaf spring?
Again, many thanks for the help, very much appreciated.
