I've been looking for quite a while for some type of shelf that I could
hang on the wall to display several objects (in my case, cylinder phono
records, my autophone, some odds and ends) that would have enough char-
acter to complement the instruments in that area. So I hit the antique
shops, and realized that I must have had good taste, because every item
that even remotely fit my desire was $150 or more, and just a plain
"shelf".
But I found an excellent solution that perhaps some other MMD reader
may like: I found the largest wooden organ pipe that I could locate (in
my case, 5 1/2 inches square and 5 feet long) and hung it horizontally
on the wall. Perfect! And my wife likes it too! It was already
finished nicely, and needed no brackets (I screwed it directly to the
wall).
Now, I admit that I paid $35 for it at an antique mall, and that I'd
rather have found and bought the organ, and that I feel somewhat guilty
for contributing to the dispersion of an organ's innards, but I _do_
have a nice shelf now, with character!
