Going through my old auction catalogs, I came across an ad for Hupfeld
Harmonium out of a Pan Orchestra which the ad claimed was "one of the
most remarkable orchestrions the world has ever known". The unit in
question had 37 reeds, another on the same page had 30. I found the
add in American International Galleries, Inc., Issue No. 8 1977 on page
62, at that time it was for sale for $150.
My question is this: Was this used to replace the pipes, or in
tandem with them? Also, it looks like there are fingers on the unit.
How were they activated to play? I'm asking to increase my knowledge
(which is very limited) as to the different instruments used in
Orchestrions.
Thanks
