McMaster-Carr Supply Company
By Don Teach

Re: Source of Round Leather Belting

I have written this suppliers name before so everyone should make a
note of it. Getting a catalog is tough unless you are rated in Dun
and Bradstreet. Call them and tell them you have a machine shop with
12 employees.

  McMaster-Carr Supply Company
  630-833-0300 for Chicago,
  404-346-7000 for Atlanta,
  330-995-5500 for Cleveland,
  562-692-5911 for Los Angeles, and
  732-329-3200 for New Jersey.

They have copper rivet washers for Cremona piano restorations, round
leather belting, flat leather belting, screws (not nickel plated),
cork sheets, fibre board for punching your own valves, spade head
screws like the ones on the Seeburg roll frame, shoulder screws like
Duo-Art used, set screws for gears with slotted heads like the old ones
used in pulleys and Seeburg gears, O-rings for drive tires like Seeburg
and Nelson-Wiggin, taps and dies, and ten thousand other items.
Excellent service.

For valve stems like Standard action or Cremona pianos try Organ
Supply.

For my limited knowledge of pneumatic cloth I use Schaff Piano Supply
because Jeff Morgan said to use it as it is the best. One tip which we
like: when we buy from Schaff, we ask for the parts made in Japan so we
don't get the crooked parts made in Mexico by Baldwin. Of course Jeff
does not like the parts from Japan for Steinway so we buy Renner parts
from Renner. We always ask for Don at Schaff.

American Piano supply is the only source we have for nickel-plated
screws and they are rude, etc. Some of my northern friends that live
close to American Piano Supply have a great relation with American
Piano Supply.

The past several years has kept me out of the restoration business and
who knows maybe someday I will get back into the restoration business.
Right now I am still looking for a Wurlitzer Mandolin Quartette and
Wurlitzer Solo Violin Piano.
