Seek Help With Cremona Balance Rail Key Pins
By Randy Hayno

I'm rebuilding a Cremona "G" and am having a problem with the balance
rail key pins. The old ones were quite rusty so I yanked them out and
ordered a new set. The old ones were 2 1/4" long. When the new ones
came they were 2 1/8" long. This may not seem like much but it is.

As it turned out the original ones were just long enough and did not
stick up out of the top of the key buttons. When the new ones are
pounded in they are too short.

I tried not pounding them all the way in but then they are not stable
when you try to bend them to space the keys. They just get loose.
I even tried using shellac. If you pound them in all the way then they
will bend okay and not get loose but are too short. Seems like every
project has these little problems that turn out to be big ones.

As it turns out the Cremona keys are wider than any other piano
I've ever seen due to an extra part glued onto the bottom of them.

Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone sell longer pins?
Any suggestions from the group?

Randy Hayno
