Seek Serial Numbers of Seeburg Pneumatic Jukebox
By Art Reblitz
In reply to Mike Wallace's request for information on Seeburg pneumatic
jukeboxes:
-- circa May 1928: Seeburg introduced the "Autophone," its first juke-
box with vacuum-operated mechanisms. It was larger than a Seeburg L.
The earliest models used the same coin accumulator as used in Seeburg
pianos of the 1920s.
-- circa July 1928: The "J. P. Seeburg Piano Company" was renamed the
"J. P. Seeburg Company."
-- September 1929: Seeburg introduced the "Coin-Operated Phonograph
with Radio," yet unnamed in the first advertising. "The J. P. Seeburg
Company" was renamed "The J. P. Seeburg Corporation."
-- October 1929: The "Coin-Operated Phonograph with Radio" was named
the "Audiophone."
-- circa 1929-1930: Seeburg introduced the "Audiophone Junior,"
a smaller jukebox with pneumatic mechanisms. It had an oval window
and was smaller than a Seeburg L.
Mike, your jukebox #169,368 is an Audiophone Junior probably made in
1929 or 1930. Seeburg pneumatic jukeboxes continued to be numbered in
the same series that was used for pianos. It seems that the first
all-mechanical jukeboxes started with a new numbering series.
To help complete the picture of the last days of the Seeburg pneumatic
instruments, I'm interested in learning the serial numbers for all
Seeburg jukeboxes made prior to 1939.
