In most cases the serial numbers in the Pierce Piano Atlas are not
correct for reproducing pianos: they are off by a couple of years.
Apparently they numbers for the reproducers were issued when the piano
was started.
In some cases the piano did not get fully manufactured until several
years later. For example, a Weber serial number on a straight piano is
often correct, while a number for a reproducer can be off several
years. Hence the player action can be two years later than the piano.
