Declining Quality of Pianos
By Bruce Clark

And how about gold spray-painted rope to cut corners for nice molding?
I saw this not long ago, but not on a Baldwin (yet).

Aeolian American was extremely fussy. One of my friends worked in the
wood working department, inspecting wood for piano frames. He was
instructed to discard any piece of wood with a knot in it or a flaw of
any kind. The wood had to be perfect, or it was sent to the furnace
where it was burned, or given to employees to be used as fire wood, or
a home wood shop project.

Then American piano was taken over by another company, and progressive-
ly went down hill, and eventually went out of business. It is sad to
see these old prestigious names presently plastered on *modern* glossy
pieces of junk!
