I had the same experience at the San Francisco music Box Company both
in San Francisco and here in Atlanta. The sales person was so impressed
with the case of the music box that they didn't offer to play it until
I related that I had a little knowledge of music boxes, then the demo
was very limited as they were scared that they might damage it if they
changed the tune. The Reuge co has a rep in the Atlanta Gift Mart and
the prices seemed to be 50 to 60 % cheaper then retail so if
interested, one could buy wholesale. My humble impression was that
they were pricey compared to vintage machines and the craftmanship,
while nice, was not that I see in the older machines. The rep gave
me a lovely color catalog that showed boxes and whistlers and musical
watches, etc.

For those in the area there are several nice disc and cylinder boxes
at the Pride of Dixie and D.S. Clarke Shows this weekend here in Atlanta.
