Mechanical Music Stories
By John Kleinbauer

Hi All, Yesterday I received an Email about the Tommy Seven TV show
from Jim Canavan. I answered him privately but I see his letter also
went to the MMD. I checked the Internet and I found several references
to the kids show. Indeed it was called "Tommy Seven". I was also
asked if I was from the New York area -- The answer is yes, I grew up
in New Jersey in the small town of North Arlington. I still live in
the same house I grew up in; I bought out my sister's half when my
parents passed on.

CNN Tidbit

Several years ago, I was flipping through the TV channels as only us
real men can do! I landed on CNN and there I found a story about how
some people still make a living out of old technologies. They showed
a man and his wife making and copying piano rolls. Also shown was the
man's wife playing a tune on a piano that someone sent them. As she
played the piano a music roll was cut. The camera also went into a
large room with tons of piano rolls. (Oh boy, Oh Boy!)

The segment then showed the man pinning large music box discs. He also
claimed he fixed music boxes but all replacement parts came from old
discarded boxes. He said he was hoping to someday be able to make
parts from scratch.

This story, among others, have caused me to be in this hobby! I hope
you will share your personal Mechanical Music stories with the rest
of us. Don't worry about your Spellin or Gammer, Jody or Robbie will
fix it!

'Til next time!
