I'd like to suggest new fields to this repository:

  Alt. Vendor
  Alt. Catalog No.
  Alt. Part No.
  Alt. Contact Data (perhaps a correlative to a simple vendor database?)

Many parts that are cataloged might also be available from retail
warehouses such as Player Piano Company, et. al.  It would be nice to
reference these alternate sources.  You should be allowed to reference
more than 1 alternate source for an item.

Here's how it works: if someone has a bunch of valve stems to add
to the database, and it's also known that PPCo stocks and sells these
items specifically, add a reference to PPCo using the above fields.

When the originator of this entry has exhausted his supply, the
alternate supplier may still have them.  This will also provide
a history of who had what parts at what time.
