Database of Used Player Piano Parts
By D. L. Bullock
John Tuttle wants to do a database of player parts. I have absolute
tons of such trash ('trash' to everyone but me). I do not know that
they are worth anything. What would one sell a complete player system
for?
I know I have DE-gutted 6 players in the last year using my stash of
player trash. But I simply do not have the weeks of time necessary to
catalog, count notes per section, and measure everything.
Besides, the only way to make sure the system fits into the piano is to
put the two together and see if they fit. Some of the Standard systems
could have been from many possible piano brands; I have no way of know-
ing where they came from. Some systems will fit most pianos of that
brand like Gulbransen. Some systems only fit certain years of the
piano they were made for.
I have spent nearly nothing acquiring the collection and spent a for-
tune storing and moving it all. I only pay for parts if they are by
the truckload with the possible exception of Reproducer parts. Are you
sure they would have enough value to someone to make it worth my while
cataloging rooms full of stuff?
