Dropped Piano Tragedy
By Ray Fairfield

Responding to Tim Baxter, with a dropped Duo-Art Grand. Back in 1984
I had a 5-foot 8-inch Weber grand sitting on its side in my garage,
which was tipped over in an earthquake here. It landed on the bottom
side, i.e., the Duo-Art stack. The only damage to the piano was a dent
in the corner of the stack box, and a lot of noise. The thing is built
like a brick outhouse.

However, this fall was merely a tipover, not falling off a truck. But
the story of "pneumatics all over the place" doesn't sound right to me.
Why don't you go up and look at it? If the guy is telling the truth a
fully rebuilt, but trashed, piano will be there looking at you.

By the way, I have a 1924 Duo-Art price list that lists Steinways.

Regards

Ray Fairfield
