Music Played By IBM Line Printer
By Ed Hayden

I also heard the IBM chain printer make music when I worked at an
IBM shop during the 60's. Later on I worked for an outfit that had
a Honeywell computer with 8 tape drives that used vacuum capstans
instead of pinch rollers to move the tapes.

We had several programs that played the tape drives. Mostly Christmas
music and some marches. I remember "The Stars and Stripes Forever".

You had to type in the number of tape drives, then the program
would play each tape drive separately as if a voice in a chorus.
The programs were from Honeywell. I guess it was a counter to IBM
chain printer music. It was music, but nothing to write home about.
