Pianos Aboard Aircraft
By Dan Wilson, London

John Lill, the concert pianist, was being interviewed on BBC Radio 3
(classical channel) and was asked if he used a dummy keyboard to
practise. He said, yes, he had a portable keyboard he took with him
on long flights.

On a jumbo, the stewardess saw him practising and asked if he would
like to play the plane's electronic piano. It could be fed through to
one of the audio channels for customers to enjoy, if he liked.

He said this worked very well, except when any announcement was made
when the piano suddenly stopped responding to his fingers and began
talking !

He didn't say what kind of plane this was, but presumably only one
with a lounge would have a resident piano.

Dan Wilson, London
