Damon, You can do no better than to go to the Sound Canvas
Pipe Organ Project at http://www.scpop.de/
This project, developed and run by Raffaele Diodati and Fillippo
Tigli, is dedicated to recreating the sounds and playing styles of
real pipe organs using Roland Sound Canvas sound modules. (Why not
join us -- it always can use fresh young blood. To my knowledge I
am the only mechanical music enthusiast in the group).
Other members of the group are trying to develop sound fonts for use
in the new Sound Blaster Live sound card. In addition to having a
whole series of wonderful organ sounds, the SCPOP has programs and
info to help you develop your own sounds. Full registration in the
SCPOP is not free, however; you must send the authors two picture
post cards of the place where you live!
Using this Pipe Organ Project as a start I have created a virtual
Orchestrelle: s 65/58-note push-up which plays a simple electronic
keyboard. (I thought it would be fun to match up 1890's technology
with 1990's technology.) I feed the MIDI output from the keyboard to
my computer/Sound Canvas/Hi-fi System. I have mounted an additional
laptop-size computer keyboard on the push-up in order to make
real-time stop changes whilst pedaling.
