Hi All, Another thread to which I can contribute. There is indeed
a Zeppelin Museum and they have a web site:
http://www.zeppelin-museum.de/index.phtml?page=1
While at Hobby Land in Ottawa I spied a solitary Revell 1:720 scale
plastic model kit (#04802) of the Hindenburg LZ 129 and snatched it
up, grinning from ear to ear. Packaged with the very simple but
highly detailed 14" model is a brochure for the Museum in Friedrichs-
hafen. The brochure is in English but the web site is only German
language so far. :-(
It appears that the museum has recreated a forward section of the
Hindenburgs hull. I expect that the Bechstein will be found there,
in the A deck Lounge, on the opposite side from the Dining Room,
these two A deck public spaces and Promenades being separated by the
passenger cabins. B deck below contained Crew Quarters, the Kitchen,
Officer's Mess and (accessible only through an airlock) the fire-
proofed Bar and Smoking Lounge.
On another note of interest, a few days earlier at the National
Aviation Museum 'way in the back storage area I came across three
Link trainers -- one from 1940 complete with operator's desk and
'crab' controller and two 1959 turquoise Fiberglas jobs with
operator's seat and control panel outside and attached to the
fuselage. A wild ride for both!
Jody, can you put these jpeg images in an appropriate place? Since,
as we know, Ed Link fashioned the first Flight Simulators based on
player piano pneumatic systems.
I left the Aviation Museum clutching a German 1:200 scale paper
kit model of the Graf Zeppelin LZ 127. Somewhere among my late
father's balsa wood airplane paraphernalia is the box lid from an
18" model kit of an airship from Aurora; alas the model is long
lost.
Meanwhile, how I wish I could be considered a charitable
organization of one; how many of us would move heaven and earth to
have a 13-rank player pipe organ dropped in our laps?
