Lightweight Piano Aboard the Hindenburg
By Craig Smith

If 'Brother' Larry Smith has the same book I do, he can look on
pages 150 through 153 and learn more than we ever wanted to know about
this piano. To be precise, it was "a Bluthner baby grand made
mostly of aluminum and covered with yellow pigskin, it weighed a
mere 397 pounds."

Check it out, located against the forward bulkhead of the starboard
lounge on A deck. The player entertained the guests off to his
right while enjoying the view through the windows of the starboard
promenade directly in front of him. The piano was installed because
"the passengers on the Graf Zeppelin complained that a piano was the
only embellishment their after supper parties lacked." It was
removed after her first season.

Regards,
Craig Smith
