Strange Lightweight Pianos in Transportation
By Darrell Clarke

Hello all, This topic reminded me of two unusual old pianos I passed
up at an auction here many years ago. They were described as ships
pianos, fitted with unique fold down key-beds and were very compact.

I think they were French, possible Bord, and were designed to be
unobtrusive in the confined surroundings of many passenger and migrant
ships. Luxury liners had no need for such questionable musical
instruments.

They are just a novelty now but I wish I had bought one, although
fitting a player action would be quite a challenge! How much easier it
would be to get it through narrow doorways and passageways!

Cheers,
Darrell Clarke
