Synthesized Theater Organ Sounds
By Damon Atchison

I was at the local electronic store (Circuit City) and I played through
all the organ styles on their keyboard. It was a big and expensive one
with 15-types of organs.

Most of them, however, were all labeled, "70's rock organ", "70's rock
organ 2", "70's rock organ 3", etc. Even their "pipe organ" was AWFUL!
I had a keyboard with 100 instruments on it in '91 and that thing had a
really great pipe organ synthesized.

Anyway, I didn't find anything which sounded close to a theater organ.
Is there a MIDI application or some sort of computer-generated theater
organ sound?

[ The Rodgers company makes classical organs and theater organs with
[ both synthesized sounds and real pipes. They demonstrated their big
[ electronic theater organ in Pasadena CA recently, complete with a
[ synthesized Wurlitzer "toybox" of percussion effects, and the local
[ fans were very impressed by how well the instrument emulated the
[ Wurlitzer sound. The company is located in Hillsboro, Oregon, and
[ is now owned by Roland of Japan. See their web site at
