Hello John and MMD readers, I'm in the midst of cutting a long-long
Duo-Art arrangement from an RKO picture -- which pretty much matches
the film's score, from which I'm working -- and will be sending a large
batch of Artcraft Music Roll Masters back to Turlock, for the Malones
(of Play-Rite) to duplicate: both new and old titles. Ever since the
factory fire in early '97, I haven't been able to get Artcraft copies,
but my huge inventory kept me going during the dry spell.
Artcraft has its own heavy duty boxes, rubber stamping equipment for
the rolls, editing capability and label printing activities here in the
Maine Studio, so, as before, I'll be receiving only bulk duplicating of
my Master Rolls, on spools.
The Malones called a few days ago, since they are ordering spool
flanges from outside, having lost their molding equipment in the
plant fire (along with the word stencil equipment). Their work in
recent months has been that of duplicating big quantities of Mills
Violano-Virtuoso rolls and other unusual scales for orchestrions.
As far as I know, the Artcraft Roll duplicating is the only thing
scheduled for the 9-to-the-inch 11-1/4-inch width 88-note and repro-
ducing roll scales in the future.
If you want the Malones' home 'phone, get in touch with me and I'll
furnish it from my other database upstairs. The work is being done in
their Castle residence now, and to my knowledge they are completely
"out" of the 88-Note Word Rolls which bore the Play-Rite name.
Hope this brings you up-to-date on Play-Rite Rolls -- a collectors'
item as a product now, I suspect.
Meanwhile, Artcraft "marches on" with new releases and will be adding
Ampico titles during the Winter months, having purchased a player for
roll-editing, which Bob Hunt is rebuilding in Kennebunk, Maine.
Luckily, I need only perforating and spools for my business -- and
nothing more!
Regards from Maine,
