[ Mark Forer is a self-avowed insomniac, which explains his great
[ knowledge about all those old movies which appear on TV in the wee
[ hours of the morning! He is also a successful producer of television
[ advertisements, and, as becomes evident in his letter following, has
[ certain recent experience with distilled spirits which appear in
[ movies! This letter is in response to two recent MMD articles:
[ "Mighty Mo" Moller Organ in MMDigest 981125, and Mechanical Music
[ in the Movies, MMD 981127, talking about the movie, "Auntie Mame".

Karl Ellison: Search no more for the book "The Best Remaining Seats".
My friend Andy, owner of one of the best movie book shops in L.A. --
"Other Times Books" on Pico Blvd. in West Los Angeles -- has a first
edition copy of it for $25. Call information in the 310 area code,
then call Andy and snap it up! (He's closed Tuesdays.) It's definitely
worth the call if you are a movie palace and theatre organ nut like
we are!
As for gin, we are currently "pitching" a major gin brand at my ad
agency, and Auntie Mame was a little off. According to serious gin
drinkers, one can only "bruise" gin (if at all) by shaking it vigorously
in a shaker. Stirring it can never "bruise" it, in fact one must stir
it to avoid bruising it! Naturally, I don't subscribe to any of this
nonsense.
It could be a blessing or a curse, depending on your point of view,
if Martha Stewart has divined the Duo-Art with her ownership. Since
everything she blesses with her seal of approval immediately goes up
in value due to her tremendous media weight and power -- witness the
rise in prices of depression glass pedestal cake plates "rediscovered"
by her, which my wife just had to have -- I may forever have to forego
ownership of one of these coveted beauties 'cause Martha drove the
price sky high. On the other hand, any day now reproducing piano
rebuilders and sellers will probably be having a field day, now that
Martha has sprinkled the Duo-Art with Holy Water.
Now if Martha were to tout a Wurlitzer 165...? Hmmmm. Better buy
'em now, while you can still afford one.
