Hi All, Early this morning I was reading MMD or should I say mis-
reading! I saw a post that said "Seek 3-Chime Ships Navigational
Whistle". In my mind I pictured a _bosun's whistle_! I knew Edmund
Scientific used to carry them. I checked their catalog but found they
no longer list them. I even checked Edmund's web site.
Wait, it gets better! In the past I did searches for keyword "Whistle"
with little results. Now I put in "bosun whistle" and up pops a site
called Elderly Instruments. They carry bosun (BoatSwain) whistles
along with single-note whistles. Single note whistles would be perfect
if I were building a monkey organ, but I am now in the middle of
building a barrel harmonium that uses accordion reeds. Check out
Elderly Instruments at:

Now back to the ships whistle. There is a large used steam whistle for
sale at Ed Gaida's web site in the Gaida's Garage section. Ed, if you
remember, got flooded out in the Texas flood last month. During the
cleanup Ed decided to sell off some of his toys. A week or so ago Ed
posted some items for sale here.
As a result of the good response to the post, along with the posi-
tive results he has had with selling my book (shameless plug No. 1),
Gaida's Garage is now a new part of Ed's web site. Some items may
or not be mechanical music related, but they are still interesting.
Ed has pictures for the items that are for sale.
In the past I failed to review Ed's site and a few others because of
a conflict of interest. The fact is Ed Gaida and others are selling my
book "Building a Barrel Organ an adventure in plastic" on his web site.
(Plug No. 2)
After seeing some commercial posts on MMD I now feel it is okay to
mention Ed's site. Ed has dozens of pictures of mechanical organs
including my favorite-type inside shots. Check out:
