My wife and I just got back from Martin's auction of horse-carriage
equipment at the Lebanon fairgrounds in Pennsylvania. I don't have
all the details yet, but there was a Calliaphone on a circus wagon that
went up for auction Friday night.
It had facilities to be operated either electrically or by a gas engine
on board, and had both a keyboard and a roll mechanism. The seller's
agent demonstrated it playing a roll before the auction. At one time
it was owned by Bob Commerford of Connecticut, whose name is on it, but
more recently it was owned by someone in Texas.
Bob runs animal-show events, and owns an elephant, giraffes, horses
and ponies. We have bought ponies from him. Last time we were there,
to buy ponies, he also tried to sell me -another- Calliaphone that he
owns.
The one at the auction, wagon and all, went for $14,000. My wife
interviewed the buyer, and got further information, but I cannot report
more until her notes surface as we unpack everything.
(We bought a pony carriage and a lot of pony harness. We passed, did
not even bid on, a portable "military" reed organ with pump pedals.
It fetched only $100.)
More info later, as we discover it.
