Hi Bruce & All, Thanks for the encouragement about our new service.
I feel confident that rebuilds will go well, being mobile. For the
typical rebuilding job, we plan to dolly the rebuilding trailer at
the customer's home. This keeps the mess (sawdust, etc.) out of the
customer's living room. The motor home then can freely be used to get
around, or camp nearby at a campground. (Maybe for the big jobs we can
afford a hotel. <grin> )
The timing is right too, as we just paid off our home, and are ready
to jump right in the field with both feet. We live in a very isolated
rural area with almost no piano interest, so I feel that, in order to
earn a good rebuilding reputation, I must take the most logical step
and go where the work is. Later, as we slowly earn a good reputation,
we can then stay at home.
I can also understand what you went through "setting up shop" on a
kitchen table ! (Many of my Fosters got rebuilt on our kitchen table.)
That is the reason I am building the trailer. The bench, supplies and
test equipment are all right there. The drill press, power sander and
table saw are on board as well.
Several people have asked if I am going to stop producing rolls if we
are on the road. Of course not! There will be a computer on board,
although I will not be able to be on-line as much. There is a way
around the problem, a mobile phone being one of them, but that will
have to be used for short calls and checking e-mail.
Restringing pianos on the road is certainly not out of the question
either. Chris & I are both in our 30's so if we are going to do
something like this, now's the time.
Thanks Again
Andy & Chris Taylor
