Mechanical Music Contacts in Spanish-Speaking Countries
In my quest to collect, catalogue and study all of the approximately
1057 rollers ("cobs") that were made for the 20-note Gem/Concert/
Chautauqua roller organs, I have now passed the 80% point. Of the
210 cobs I still do not have, about 40% of them are foreign and,
of these, 48 of them are Spanish titles.
The fact that such a large part of the catalogue was devoted to Spanish
cobs probably means that there was some market for them at some point,
but I come across them here in the U. S. only occasionally. I wondered
if perhaps some mechanical music dealer or collector in Spain or a
Central or South American country would either have some for sale or
be able to provide a lead as to where they might be found.
MMD subscribers, do any of you know of such a person?
I would pay well for any Spanish cob definitively identifiable by
either number or title. Unfortunately, I do not speak Spanish myself,
but my secretary does, and could probably translate any letter of
inquiry I composed.
Thank you for your help!
