Compressing Audio Files
By Terry Smythe

About a year or so ago, I asked this question, and basically learned at
the time that the technology just wasn't here yet.

I would like to post an audio file of my 65 cm. Kalliope disk music box
on my web site. I've made an audio cassette recording and have learned
how to make a *.WAV file from it. However, the resulting *.WAV file
from a single tune is mammoth, far too big to post on a web site.

I'm hopeful of posting some form of audio recording of this fine
instrument on my web site, and I'm wondering what suggestions might
emerge from our MMD participants now. Is there now a way of
transferring my audio recording into some form of computer file that
is dramatically smaller?

I'm running a Pentium 2 with a Sound Blaster 16 audio card, under
Win98. Would an upgrade to AWE64 facilitate this objective?

Thoughts of others would be appreciated.

Regards,

Terry Smythe
