Hi folks: The acceleration talk has been intriguing, and presents a
quandary to the roll creator. Richard Brandle's "WIND" program for roll
editing/creation now compensates for acceleration upon MIDI import.
I've tried it with two new rolls:
"Long and Gentle" by Robin Frost (released, so far, only on piano
roll) and "Hot Kumquats" by Robin Frost.
The latter is a quick, fast number with only about 17 feet of roll,
so acceleration would not have been an issue at any rate.
"Long and Gentle", though, goes to about 32 feet, and the acceleration
compensation works pretty nicely. The parameters have been set for
Richard Brandle's piano; I think the roll still accelerates very very
slightly on my piano, but I'm not sure it's worth the trial and error
to get it right for my own piano, as this will differ anyway from piano
to piano.
Does anyone out there know of/have a formula for roll acceleration
which considers how much additional length should be added to notes as
a function of time/length of roll?
