Hi! Just a quick response to the posting by A. B. Bonds on Computer
Programs for Piano Tuning from
http://www.balaams-ass.com/piano/piano.htm
The "free download" of tuning software, as I read it, is after you
spend $25 for a CD which perhaps might be of interest: as I gather
from it's Table of Contents, it's all about pianos and piano tuning
and repairing. (And a bit of prayers and sermons thrown in for no
extra charge -- in no way intended as any criticism at all by me).
Then, the author of the shareware would like you to send him something
like $35 dollars or so, if you like what you get.
Just wanted to clarify the "free" comment. It may very well be worth
many times that. I just don't know.
I really didn't spend much time at the site, since I got caught up
in some of his very nice links. It seems that whenever I start the
"links thing" I never get back to where I wanted to be in the first
place, and it's two or three hours later. Common problem? Or just
my disorganization and curiosity?
However, I did spend some time visiting the Steinway link which has
been updated since I last saw it: virtual postcards to your friends
with photos of Steinway pianos incorporated within. Also, Steinway now
posts serial numbers by approximate date of production which, I be-
lieve, you always had to phone them for, or use Pierce's Piano Atlas.
Haven't looked at much more of the site, and there is lots more.
Didn't get beyond Steinway in the manufacturer's section. He also
sells piano parts. However, I will point out that from what I have
seen so far, there is next to nothing on player pianos and less than
that on reproducing pianos. It's pianos!
I don't write to MMD often (perhaps an excellent way to proceed for
me) because I write too much when I do write, maybe to catch up in
cumulative words used. My first paragraph says "quick response".
Sorry!
Regards,
Rich Lazar
