Re: Inquiries about Brian Chester's music box purchase gone bad
I was delighted and surprised by the number of MMD people at the
MBSI convention, which included some delightful people from overseas.
A number of them asked if anything had been resolved concerning my
purchase of the music box from Mr. Brian Chesters. In addition I
have had several email messages asking the same thing.
As you will recall, Mr. Chesters opened the question of his actions to
this group [as "Untrue Allegations"]. All of the responses indicated
that they believed Mr. Chesters was in the wrong and had the moral,
ethical and legal responsibility to remedy this situation. Sadly,
he has done absolutely nothing and still apparently believes that he
has no responsibility for any item you purchase from him, once he has
_your_ money in his hand.
Soooo, *Let the buyer beware!*
With respect to his failure to properly insure the music box even
though I paid him to do so, it is interesting that he has never gone
back to the shipper and argued that the music box was not an antique.
He has indicated that the shipper would not pay on the damage because
they do not insure antiques. I believe that the European definition is
that the item must be over 100 years old. Regina music boxes are very
well documented and actual shipping dates are available. The one I
purchased would be less than 100 years old.
I wonder if any other MMD members have thoughts on this??
Have a great day!
