Georges Poirot Barrel Organ
By Craig Smith

Re Georges Poirot, Last Organbuilder in Mirecourt -- I too would be
interested in information about Georges Poirot.

My reason is a little different from Francoise's. I have a very nice
little barrel organ which was built by his firm. Although the barrel
is like new, the rest of the organ needs restoration. It's one of the
items that I have put off restoring for some time (I deleted the
excuses I had written) but must get back to soon.

The case has a very interesting inlay with scenes of hunters and dogs.
It also has some very interesting pipes which get narrower at the top
(front to back). The tune sheet includes some Strauss waltzes -- which
is why I bought it.

If Francoise or others have information on this machine, I'd be glad to
learn more. The barrel in my organ has a very clear stamp on it which
gives the name and city of the maker along with some other writing.
