Dear MMDians,
I had Friday off, so I went down to the Malones to do a little
recording. There will be a "Music Fit For a King" Vol. 3. All WurliTzer.
And now I have a request to make from all those who have now heard
the sound of the Malone's 165. Friends, I make the recordings, yes. But
without the Malones consent, not one of the recordings would have ever
been released. They are the ones who chose to share it with the world.
They may receive a decent royalty, but my money means little to them
when they run a massive roll cutting operation. If the music you hear
for a meager $12.00 is in fact good enough to suit a king's taste, then
please let them know. Write them in your spare time and tell them what
you think of their WurliTzer-165. If you like a certain rank of pipes or
a set of percussion, go on and say it!. Your praise will be the reason
for my recording there.
When John was my age, he went and bought the WurliTzer 165 in
millions of pieces. It took him years to get it all back together, but
when he did, he had the most magnificent mechanical music machine right
there in his own home. After so many years of appreciating it himself,
it would be good for him to hear someone confirm that yes, it is truly a
wonderful machine.
Jeanne Malone began cutting the rolls because she wanted to get into
the hobby her son was wild over. She's still cutting rolls for mechanical
music machines to this day and without her, the business would have
never succeeded. So please let her know that her work had and still has
purpose. Only a few of the rolls I record are original. Most of them are
recuts that were done by her.

Warmest regards,

P.S. Who are the modern arrangers for 165 band-organ music? There's
Reblitz... and who else? What are the newly cut tunes?
